Inflation and slowdown complicate Fed policies

U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke tried to assuage lawmakers’ concerns that interest-rate cuts will exacerbate inflation.

“While we can’t do much about oil prices or food prices in the short run, we do have to be careful to make sure that those prices do not either feed substantially into other types of prices,” Bernanke told the Senate Banking Committee Thursday. The Fed must ensure that the public remains confident that it will control inflation, he said. Continue..

Turkey supplies 12 pct of Vodafone’s revenue

The United Kingdom-based GSM operator Vodafone attained YTL 21.25 billion in turnover worldwide in 2007. During the same period, Turkey supplied 12 percent of the company’s aggregate revenue by providing a turnover of YTL 2.6 billion.Through its acquisitions in Turkey and India, Vodafone’s revenues rose 16 percent compared to the last quarter of 2006, Vodafone Turkey CEO Atilla Vitai said Thursday at a press conference on the company’s performance and its targets for 2008. 

Karsan to produce 150,000 vans for Peugeot-Citroen

Karsan, the maker of Peugeot light trucks in Turkey, will produce 150,000 vans for France’s PSA Peugeot Citroen by 2013. Karsan will add 1.2 billion euros ($1.8 billion) of sales from the deal, it said in a filing with the Istanbul Stock Exchange Friday. Production will commence in October.

More Than 200,000 Tourists Visit Antalya In 2008

ANTALYA - A total of 200,013 tourists visited Turkish Mediterranean province of Antalya since the beginning of 2008, according to figures of Antalya Culture & Tourism Directorate.

Meanwhile, 69,707 tourists visited Antalya between February 1st and 10th, 2008.

The number of tourists who visited Antalya on February 8th, 9th and 10th, 2008 was 20,311, stated the directorate. (Turkishpress.com)

Turkish Hotels In Best Hotels List Of Thomas Cook

Thomas Cook, one of giant tour operators in the world, included two Turkish hotels in its list of top ten hotels in the world.

Trendy Hotels Aspendos Beach and Hotel Paradise Side Beach in the Mediterranean province of Antalya received best hotel awards of Thomas Cook.

The tour operator chose five-star Erlebnishotel Colesseo in Germany as the best hotel in the world. Trendy Hotels Aspendos Beach is the second best hotel in the world, and Beach Resort in Greece is the third.

Hotel Paradise Side Beach of Turkey is at the list of the top ten hotels.

Paloma Hotels Grida Village, Paloma Hotels Side Beach, Paloma Perissia, Royal Wings, Kumkoy Beach, Alba Resort and Club Voyage Sorgun Select are the other Turkish hotels in the best 100 hotels in the world list of Thomas Cook. (Turkishpress.com)
